Huge congrats are due to Team Lost Coast Brewery rider Brian Astell who took home the first team win of the season last week at the CXSR series final race in Santa Rosa! Check out the sweet press release from Marin Bikes below:

The last race of the CXSR Cross Series in Santa Rosa rewarded fans and competitors alike with tough competition and even tougher weather. Dark clouds welcomed the final event held on Valentines Day in Doyle Park in Santa Rosa, CA and as the racers lined up the skies opened with a deluge to baptize bikes and bodies with cold, thick mud.

Among the field was Team Lost Coast Brewery rider Brian Astell, who took a break from his winter base-training schedule to test his fitness in the premier A’s race among noteworthy racers Josh Snead of HRS/Rock Lobster and Chris Brown of Team Norcal. At the gun Snead surged to break free of the pack in the first few laps, but Astell maintained contact before overtaking Snead. Jumping the barriers instead of dismounting, Astell built a gap of 30-45 seconds over Snead and held it though the remainder of the race to take the win in dramatic style.

The course featured a mix of flat lanes through the muddy infield, a short pavement section and two technical downhill sections with one stair run-up into a sand pit. While the Cortina has been Astell’s bike choice for the season, in Sant Rosa he chose to race a Mill Valley as the flat handlebar and longer chainstays provided added control in the slippery conditions and extra clearance for the frame-clogging mix of grass and mud.

Be sure to keep an eye out for Brian and the rest of the Lost Coast team as they hit the 2009 Cross Country and Super D Circuit!
