Paragon & Ahrens

First of all I have got to say that Emma and I have been some of the most lucky privateers racing bikes. We have been fortunate enough to meet some of the most awesome people in the bike and related industries. People like Dave Verrecchia from Vanderkitten and Mike Ahrens from Ahrens Bikes have been essential in making our team a success. Their enthusiasm rivals our own! Not to mention they have been introducing our little team all around town to get more sponsors. Thanks guys!

So Mike Ahrens has been hard at work getting things done at his day job and providing for his family, and still he manages to find time to design the Ahrens bikes frames for Emma and I. I think it was only one day after it was official that Mike sent us the spanking new drawings of our frames for us to drool over while we waited for them to be built. I’m still drooling, but the frames should be here by the end of November. Mike has designed some sweet custom steel frames for us using a special blend of tubing hand picked for the best ride quality, durability, and weight. While working with his suppliers he has been trying to get whatever cost he can cut for our poor little college kid race team. That’s where the awesome connection at Paragon Machine Works comes in. These guys didn’t just cut the cost for Mike and the team they completely donated disc dropouts and bottom bracket shells! Wow! Our complete gratitude goes out to the people over at Paragon Machine Works in Richmond. Check out their website at

Ahh… Look at those sexy dropouts!

Sample Jersey!

Here is a (very) rough idea of what our jerseys may look like for next year. The real one will show more love for VK and Ahrens (and hopefully have some more sponsors on it). We are also throwing around the idea of a brown/lightblue/white color scheme. We are working with Vertical Systems as the possible title sponsor for the team. When Tsering and I get our hands on more sophisticated software, we will post an updated jersey design (this one was made in Paint!). Hope you all are doing well!

Vanderkitten Clothing!

Thanks so much to our new sponsor, Vanderkitten– clothing for women who kick ass! Tsering and I met Dave V from Vanderkitten at the Nor Cal Bicycle Market in Berkeley at the end of summer and he has been totally supportive of our budding race team. Vanderkitten hooked me up with some sweet threads that I’ve been sporting (see photos). Their tshirts are hip, extremely comfortable, and have a great athletic fit. I’ve gotten lots of compliments on the cool designs and soft material. The VK track jacket is also a much loved staple in my new wardrobe. The track jacket is a nice navy blue color with a hip-hugging waistband and a full zipper. Dave is working on getting the girls on the Cal team hooked up with some of these and everyone is eagerly awaiting them.
This past weekend Tsering and I brought the Vanderkitten tent and some sample shirts to the Parkfield Classic MTB race. We handed out lots of stickers and flyers and spread the good word. (see above pic).
We will keep you posted on more VK news, especially the partnership of Vanderkitten and Ahrens cycles. Ahrens will be hooking us up with some custom steel frames with the help of VK. My frame will have a HOT Vanderkitten/Ahrens paint scheme to promote women’s specific designs and ass kickin! Thanks again to Vanderkitten! -E
